The 2024 graduation rate at White Bear Lake Area High School* is 96.5%, topping the state rate by 12.3 percentage points and up three percentage points from last year, in data released today by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).
District data, which includes students from WBLAHS along with students from the district’s Area Learning Center (ALC) and Transition Education Center (TEC) programs, shows a 91.6% four-year graduation rate for the class of 2024. This exceeds the state’s graduation rate by 7.4 percentage points.
Mariner Middle School Language Arts teacher Carla Triggs was named White Bear Lake Area Educators' 2025 Teacher of the Year at an April 29 celebration and recognition ceremony.
White Bear Lake Area High School’s Automotive Program, led by Automotive Instructor and Technology Education Building Lead Derek Doescher, has been named the Exemplary Secondary Program of the Year. This award showcases secondary level transportation programs that serve as exemplary models of institutional support, instructional leadership, and program-wide excellence.
Mariner Middle School has been named a Gold Star Winner—the highest distinction—in the 2024-25 Star of Innovation Awards presented by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP). The award honors schools across Minnesota for developing and supporting exemplary, innovative educational programs.

The district was represented at White Bear Lake’s Touch-A-Truck event on May 8, with students and families having fun checking out the Nutrition Services truck and a yellow school bus.
At Oneka Elementary, fifth graders wore mismatch socks as they participated in "Rock Your Socks" day on March 21 to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day!
At Oneka Elementary, students practiced their engineering skills by working with robots. Their activity was captured in this video issue of the district's The Week in 62.4 Seconds.
District staff, students, community members and board members enjoyed the first School Board meeting in the new board meeting location, the Community Room, at Sunrise Park District Service Center on March 3.
Oneka Elementary students got into character to practice their performance of “Press Start” for their classmates, before performing for their families and the community.

White Bear Lake Area Schools (WBLAS) recently conducted a community and parent survey to gather insights into the district's performance and community perception. The results, presented by Peter Leatherman from The Morris Leatherman Company at a School Board work session, highlight a strong sense of satisfaction and support from both district residents and parents.
District Center offices, including the Centralized Enrollment Center, have moved to the Sunrise Park District Service Center located at 2399 Cedar Avenue in White Bear Lake.
At the January 13, 2025 Regular Meeting of the School Board, the Oath of Office was administered by Superintendent Kazmierczak to newly elected School Board members Angela Thompson, Scott Arcand, and Dan Skaar.
If winter weather is so severe that schools need to close, families will be alerted via phone, email and text to those with texting capabilities. The message will be posted on the district's website and social media accounts, and the information will also be available on local media outlets.
